Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate 51M viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
