Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
